The BATH HOMOROD
Is situated in the valley of Homorodul Mare and Fürdő stream (height
740-760 m). It is 18 km away from Odorheiu Secuiesc. The county seat is
34, Vlăhiţa is 6 km away. In the past it was a small settlement at the
foot of the mountain with fizzy warm and cold baths, today it is a youth
holiday camp with national significance, with mineral water springs
(Lobogó, Mária, Csorgó, Homoródi, Ilona, Fenyves springs). The climate
is typical for the foot of the mountain. The summer is warm, the winter
is cold with changing winds. The Ilona valley is protected against the
wind. The mountain climate is good for recreation and healing.
Mineral water springs
along the main road The Homoród or Vészfarki spring Csorgó spring Lobogó
spring or Kápolnás spring with 7200 litres daily yield; this is the most
abounding mineral water spring in Homoród bath. Mária spring or Felső
fountain The springs of Hidegfürdő Fő spring or Klotild spring Ilona
spring Fenyves spring or Kálmán spring Tódor's spring For the above
springs is characteristic the high proportion of the microelements (Li,
Mg, Br, J). Chemically they belong to the group of ground-chalky,
chloride sour waters. Can be utilised for drinking cures, and also for
drinking. The well known mineral waters of Homoród were used in the
Roman times. The ruins of "Földvár" Situated on the Láz, near the old
roman road, described by Téglás Gábor as a place named Várhegy or
Földvár a 36x36 m square that was the guarding tower (castellum) of the
Romans. This place is situated left from the old Csík street (named also
the old roman road). Southwestwards from here, at about 200 m distance
he observed a 23x15 m ground plan castle element, characteristic for the
Romans (2nd century B.C.). The two Roman castellums (guarding towers)
figure as archaeological reservation in the official monuments catalogue
of Harghita county.
